Performance issues lingering

Follow up to Site performance issues since I can’t post new replies.

It appears that many of the performance issues are still lingering. I loaded up the Cairn Press creator page today, and even with caching enabled, several requests took an incredibly long time, some nearly up to a minute.

Here is the waterfall (Firefox):

Vaguely wondering if issues like this are related: Eternal loading screen on chrome on iPhone - #3 by jimmyshelter

We just deployed significant performance improvements to Browse and creator pages. You should find them all loading a lot quicker now, with much quicker filtering and search.

Please continue to report these issues - they’re very helpful for tracking down problems and improving the platform!

Glad to hear!

Unfortunately I’m still seeing a number of issues. This morning, the https://rpg-trader.com/api/auth/me endpoint has been timing out with HTTP 504 errors, and I can’t log in at all.

EDIT: Lots of timeouts today on the home page

Just checking in to second this. Issues from Chrome Browsing, Logging In, and trying to check the site in general.

Sounds like some database upgrades are en route: @rpg-trader.bsky.social on Bluesky

Yeah - thanks for patience folks! The interest from the community was too great for our database to handle, but we’re back up and running now.

This incident helped us uncover a cache rule that wasn’t getting used when it should have been, which we have now fixed, so overall performance should be a lot better going forward.

Good to hear! I’ll continue to poke at things.

I suppose the activity feed being disabled is part of the performance improvement? I expect that will return at some point?

Yes - that’s temporary while we monitor the load on the database. We’ve also disabled the daily and weekly digest emails temporarily. We’ll bring these back incrementally as we’re sure the database holds up fine.

We’ve just enabled the activity feed again, and we’ll continue to monitor the load on the database over the next 24 hours. If it all appears stable, we’ll also enable the digest emails again (as well as a few background processes that don’t immediately impact anyone).
