I’m copying some products from itch and I have a nice wide product image that works as a header but is a terrible square thumbnail. It would be nice if there was a way to upload a separate square image as the thumbnail for those uses, to avoid having to basically design a product image that is square.
That’s an interesting idea - an option to upload a separate image as the product thumbnail. I like the idea, so will investigate how to implement a UI for this, and see how well it works.
Maybe a checkbox in the “Primary image” section? Something like

Sounds reasonable. Once we have the initial launch done and everything running smoothly for sales, we’ll look into this.
Just pushed an update that improves the featured product layout, so the image will (almost always) remain fully square. With the changing screen sizes and needing to keep the content alongside it, there will be some movement, but it will remain square for the most part now.

I love how you guys have been on top of everything so far 
We have just published an update that works like this (with a small change to the wording and focus):
And we renamed ‘Other images’ to ‘Gallery images’ to make it more clear what the gallery is.
The toggle defaults to on for all new and existing products, so nothing will change for any products, and you can toggle it off to make the primary image only show on product cards and not on the product page itself.
It’s cleaner than having a separate thumbnail upload, and achieves the same goal.
