Misbegotten Children of Izanami by Wormod

The storm’s first drops are welcomed by the villagers of Iza, whose crops are thirsty from summer heat. By evening, the rain becomes a deluge, and the villagers, whose crops are drowning, regret their earlier hospitality. The wind has picked up—it tears greedily at travelers’ hats and cloaks, and the trees supplicate themselves to the heavens. Visibility is short; the world is rendered in grey watercolors. The road has turned into a riverbed which eats boots.

Impossibly, there are fireflies ahead. Light comes from inside five houses clinging to a country road. Any other settlement is a day’s march away; Iza will have to do for shelter.
